The Long Beach coin show was another busy show for Mike's Coin Chest. We displayed the Gold River Collection, which is the number 2 Morgan Dollar PCGS registry set assembled by Mike's Coin Chest. This drew many people to our table and they had the chance to see what Mike's Coin Chest is all about. Aside from our inventory, this gives another example of Premium Quality coins. The Market: It seems as if dealers are hesitant to purchase coins at this time. I herd over and over dealers were not looking at coins much in Long Beach. I believe this is because there is not much out there as far as quality goes at this time. For example, there were only about 2 coins in the auction at Long Beach which made me say "Wow", this is a really nice coin. The other 200 coins we looked at were not high end or problem coins. It was just "stuff" and nothing exciting. However, we were able to purchase and sell some really nice coins on the bourse floor and from existing costumers, which we cannot wait to display at the summer ANA in Los Angeles CA. The Long Beach Coin Show should be changed to The Long Beach Morgan Dollar show. At Mike’s Coin Chest, we could not believe how many Morgan Dollars we sold. With gold skyrocketing and most dealers investing in gold, we were ready to sell a majority of our gold pieces. However, Morgan Dollars were the hot ticket and after spending a good amount of money in the Florida auctions at the FUN show, Mikes Coin Chest did not disappoint in Long Beach. Now with gold being nearly $1,000 an ounce we expect the market to continue to be strong during such an unpredictable time. We look forward to seeing everyone at the mid winter ANA in Portland Oregon.

This year’s FUN show had its positives and negatives. It seemed to have a record number of collectors and investors in attendance but, high end gem quality coins were still a rare site to see. It seemed as if many dealers had nice flashy coins to display but, once you look closely at them they were problem coins. Mike’s Coin Chest paid close attention to the auction that was taking place at the FUN show rather than what was on the bourse floor. There were many high graded beautiful coins in the heritage auction and we were major players in it. We bought just about everything we had planed on buying and we look forward to displaying our fresh new material at the Long Beach Coin Show Feb, 5th-7th. In today’s market you want to be careful of “What” you buy and who you buy from. Our advice is to find a dealer whom you can trust and one who has a good reputation and will stand behind what they sell. We look forward to seeing you.

The economy has been the main topic of discussion the past few months. It seems as if many dealers and collectors are picking and choosing with a frugal mind set, and some are preparing for slow times. However, Mikes Coin Chest and many other dealers continue to buy high end pieces where there is always a market. High end coins continue to bring the premiums they deserve and the smart investor / collector continue to buy choice, high end coins with out hesitation. After a long awaited ANA, the show proved to be everything it should have. The enormous bourse floor was packed with collectors and investors seeking the perfect piece for their collection. High end - PQ coins were hard to find and for Mikes Coin Chest, Morgan Dollars were the hot item at the show. We had a hard time finding coins at reasonable levels to replace the coins we sold. Anything nice was bringing around 10 to 20% above grey sheet ask and considering nice coins are few and far between, we had no problem paying the premiums when we found them. As usual CAC coins were selling strong and had a huge impact on the market. CAC coins are the hot item and Mike's Coin Chest has the largest inventory of high end CAC coins on the market.
